Το τρέιλερ της ταινίας διαφήμιζε ότι θα δούμε την γέννηση και την εξέλιξη της CIA. Παρ' ότι έτσι ξεκινά η ταινία, στη συνέχεια επικεντρώνεται στη προσωπική ζωή του κεντρικού (τραγικού)ήρωα, γίνεται ένα οικογενειακό δράμα(όπως λέει και ο ίδιος ο ΝτεΝιρο στο μοναδικό έξτρα του ελληνικού δίσκου ).Για όσους ασχολούνται με μυστικές εταιρίες, μασονικές στοές, κατασκοπία κια εν γένει την ιστορία "πίσω από τις επικεφαλίδες", τα όσα λέει η ταινία σχετικά με την CIA είναι λίγο πολύ γνωστά. Για όσους δεν γνωρίζουν τίποτα, είναι μία καλή ευκαιρία να μάθουν κάτι. Όμως αυτό που μένει από την όλη ταινία δεν είναι τα της CIA,αλλά η προσωπική ζωή ενός πράκτορα(και ίσως των περισσότερων εξ' αυτών)-στην ουσία βλέπουμε ότι δεν έχει την πολυτέλεια για προσωπική ζωή. Ζεί στο περιθώριο(κατόπιν δικής του βέβαια επιλογής) και είναι απόμακρος από τα καθημερινά προβλήματα αλλά και τις μικρές χαρές της "κανονικής" ζωής. Είναι το βαρύ τίμημα που πρέπει να πληρώσουν όσοι ασχοληθούν με τον "κλάδο" αυτόν..Όπως λεέι και ο ήρωας, λίγο πριν το τέλος της ταινίας "Στο τέλος καταλήγεις μόνος χωρίς οικογένεια, φίλους και πατρίδα". Από σκηνοθετικής πλευράς ο ΝτεΝιρο τα πάει μια χαρά ,δημιουργεί μια καλή ατμόσφαιρα, όσο για της ερμηνείες κυμαίνονται σε καλά επίπεδα(πλην της Τζολί βέβαια- όσο για τον Ντέιμον είναι λιγότερο μέτριος από οτι συνήθως).Η αδυναμία της ταινίας έγκειται στη μεγάλη δίαρκεια της, στην οποία καλοί είναι βέβαια οι διάλογοι, αλλά 2,5 ώρες με παντελή απουσία δράσης, κάποια στιγμή σε κουράζει(εγώ άντεξα ως το δίωρο ).The Good Shepherd: 6/10
